NME (New Musical Express) music magazine uses a bold, bright and large font type that instantly draws the readers attention too the cover of the magazine.
The use of the bright red filling of the font connotes passion, rage and danger which can be seen as NME's style due too the hardcore pop/rock that is used though out their magazines. The red also draws the readers attention straight too the title and this could be seen as why they are so well known and don't necessarily need the whole title too be showing because the audience instantly know's what it is.
The use of the thick, bold, black outline makes the lettering stand out even more and makes the inside red and white font appear too be more 3D- creating a slight illusion for the target audience.
'Kerrang' magazine is named after the onomatopoeic word that comes from the sound made when playing a power chord on a distorted electric guitar. By using the name of an actual musical piece, it fully portrays that it is a magazine and relates directly too those that are interested in rock music due too them knowing what the title means.
The use of the chosen font also connotes a rocky, smashed-up appeal too it which relates towards rock and heavy metal because he smashed/cracked lettering can relate too the sound waves and noise breaking the font. This makes the font appear more realistic and as if it has actually been broke. Also, then use of an exclamation mark after the masthead could suggest that is is loud, which relates back too the use of guitars and rock music. Also, the punctuation makes it appear more 'in your face'.
The use of the black, bold lettering also makes it stand out even more too the designated target market due too outstanding appeal that it connotes.
'Billboard' magazine's mastheads have changed and developed over the years slightly in order too keep up with the latest modern and unique trends. The fact that they have changed their design slightly connotes that a slight difference can still have a recognisable impact on the industry, but their target audience still knows who they are. This is because Billboard tend too have the main image covering part of the masthead and therefore a dramatic change too the font style of the title could cause the magazine too not be as recognisable.
The use of the change of the capital letter at the start too the lower case 'b' connotes a modern and interesting take to the title because it makes it look more interesting and less formal than those that are grammatically correct. The change from the thinner black font too the thicker bold font conveys a more eye-catching appeal too the audience due too the boldness making it stand out more. Also, the use of the changes in colour placements within the gaps of the letters makes the colours stand out more (the last development shows a wider variation and range of colour choices that all go together well, and the placement of them makes them stand out more no matter where the main image may be placed over the masthead).
